Dakota Hilbert and Anastacia Leonard-Robbins
Together for more than 8 years with our interest in cornhole starting shortly afterwards! We would always play while camping and at family events and cookouts. Dakota can get very competitive at times and even more so with his family and friends! Eventually as our passion for the sport grew, we decided to make a couple of homemade boards for family members. Now we didn’t have to take a set with us to events and family gatherings!
Fast forward a few years to 2021, a friend of ours invited Dakota to play in a weekly tournament at Emigsville Fire Hall. The league format was Switcholio and the competition was great. We had no idea that Cornhole was such a big deal in our local hometown! Dakota loved playing, making new friends, and growing his game so much that he became a frequent flyer at the fire hall and other local events!
The following year Dakota was asked to help run the local event at the fire hall and within a year we were running the event! While being stand in directors we fell in love with the regular crowd and how much they loved us. Many people would ask “Why don’t you guys start your own cornhole club? Grow the game and provide another opportunity to play in York County!” And that’s where Light Em’ Up began!
We went back and forth for many weeks about a name until we officially landed on Light Em' Up Cornhole. The name originated from Dakota’s love for vehicles (and burn outs), he has been a full-time mechanic at a local garage since 2016. In our logo you see a big green Dodge Cummins, to call it his baby is an understatement! He has owned it since high school and done a lot of sweat equity into it throughout the years.
As we began to brainstorm ideas and make plans, we realized how important it was to include small businesses in our journey. Anastacia also owns a small craft business (Personal Touch by Anastacia) that she has run since 2016! Supporting local and small businesses was very important to us, so that who we targeted for our board sponsors. They were a huge part in getting our business up and running and we couldn't be prouder to represent them at each week at our local tournaments!
We started running at the Strinestown Carriage House on December 14th. The love and support for us was so amazing that we very quickly realized we needed more space and capacity! Currently running at The Blended House in York City, while a beautiful venue, we are in need of more space to support our crowd!
All in all, our journey has only just begun!! 2023 was a great year to start for us but we are SO excited to see what the year 2024 brings for us, including being a part of The King of Clubs Cornhole League! Our goal is to grow the game and have fun while we’re doing it! Follow us on Facebook to keep up with our latest news. Players ranging from beginners to pros are ALWAYS welcome! We welcome you to our cornhole family and invite you to experience our amazing community!
